Garland Church is blessed with a leadership team of men and women who are committed to the Gospel and the charge to build up the community of Christ.
Rod Cosgrove, Lead Pastor
Hi there! I'm Rod: husband to Amy and father to four beautiful daughters. I have served Garland Church as lead pastor since 1998 and am thankful to God and to Garland for the opportunity to serve.
As lead pastor, my main responsibility is to serve Garland as its primary spiritual leader. This includes preaching and teaching, disciplemaking, prayer, strategy formation and vision casting, and connecting the dots between people who wish to serve and the community.
In my spare time (which I don't have much of) I like to be with my family, working on our vegetable garden, biking, backpacking, mountaineering and cheering on the Colorado Buffaloes. I'm also bi-vocational, serving in the Washington Air National Guard as a Commander of the 141st Maintenance Squadron at Fairchild AFB.
Terry Andres, Spiritual Formation Director
I serve Garland as its Spiritual Formation Director. To me this means helping people grow in a deeper relationship with Christ, by helping them open themselves to the Spirit's slow, steady work of character transformation.
Outside of this role, I enjoy long walks with my wife (sometimes in grizzly bear country), playing with my grandkiddos and reading, reading, reading.
TERI BEAL, WOMEN'S DISCIPLING LEAD
I am the Women’s Discipleship Lead here at Garland Church. It is my role to help connect women into relationships that will sharpen them. Ideally, a woman who has walked with the Lord longer can use her experience to help a younger woman learn how to live her life in a way that glorifies the Him. It is my joy to encourage women into a deeper life with Christ and I am deeply thankful to be given this responsibility.
I am a wife and mom of grown children with whom I love spending time. I enjoy being creative.
Amy Cosgrove, Children's Director
I oversee Garland's children's ministry for kids from birth through 5th grade by providing leadership and vision, as well as equipping teams of people who minister to them. Building up a holistic family ministry is important to me! These days, I'm teaching a parenting class for young mothers in our community.
When I'm not working at the church I pour myself into supporting the activities of my daughters – often music, drama and dance. I love camping and traveling with my family, baking, sewing dance costumes and throwing perfect birthday parties. It's a specialty.
MEL KAFFLEN, worship director
I am Mel Kafflen: mom, wife, teacher, nurse, and maid! I serve here at Garland Church as the Worship Director where I get the privilege to work with a talented group of people each week as we seek the Presence of the Lord and pour out our praises to Him.
I enjoy being creative, whether it be through cooking or music. When I have free time I love to sit in the quiet with a cup of tea.
Darcy Stockdill, Ministry Assistant & Accountant
I support our staff and congregation in all the ministry activities they do! This may mean a wide variety of jobs that involve lots of coordination and getting the word out. I especially like to provide our leadership with relevant financial information so they can make the best decisions possible.
Though I used to quilt and garden, these days my favorite activities include spending time with my husband David and our four daughters and watching Washington Husky Football.
MATT TWIST, Youth Director
Hello, my name is Matt Twist and I am the Youth Director here at Garland Church. I am originally from Central Minnesota and moved to Spokane to attend Moody Bible Institute. I am in my senior year of a Youth and Family Ministry degree. I have been involved in youth ministry since high school and have loved every second of it. As a Youth Director, I get to hang with some pretty sweet youth and on top of that, I get to teach them about the Bible! I also get to be a cheerleader for parents as they pursue raising their teens to live godly lives.
In my past, I loved to sing along to my Taylor Swift cd’s and go cow tipping. But nowadays, I really enjoy music in all aspects, listening and playing. I also enjoy spending time with people, playing video games, watching a funny TV show or movie. And I am always down for playing board games.
