How You Can Participate
There are so many who hunger to be discipled. This includes lost people who are irreligious and far from God, as well as those who are already believers.
You may be one of the lucky ones who has had a spiritual father or mother pour into them. Or you may be someone searching for a relationship like this. Either way, the church needs you – needs you!
For the Mature Believer
Don't underestimate yourself. People who are young in their faith need what you have to offer. Consider telling these people something like this:
"I've been praying about it, and God has laid you on my heart to invite you into a disciplemaking relationship with me. As Paul said, "Follow me as I follow Christ." I want to teach you what it's like to really walk with God. I want to invest myself in you, that God might do something special in the both of us. Anything you see in me that's of the Lord, copy it. Anything you see that isn't, let it go. Nobody made me the corner of everything spiritual, but I do have some things to share and I want to vulnerably open myself up to you. Will you pray and ask God if he would have you enter into such a relationship with me?"
Then trust God to do his work. Disciplemaking is very close to the heart of Jesus, so you can be assured that he will give you all that you need.
For the spiritual orphan
It's easy to feel spiritually alone. Do not let yourself shrink into the background, but open yourself up to the call that God has placed upon your heart to grow.
Look for mature believers who will pour themselves into you and ask them if they would be willing to enter into a discipling relationship.
