Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need to build a new Worship Center?

Worshipping God is not about the building.  We know this because God very clearly meets with us in our gym.  However, our building is aging and the costs to maintain it are increasing.

Using our gym for worship and other large meetings is challenging.  There are often sound and media difficulties as well as spatial concerns.  The repeated set-up and tear-down for each event brings further wear on our chairs and equipment.  We are currently limited in our ability to use the gym for athletics because of the semi-permanent stage and sound booth.

A dedicated Worship Center secures the ability of Garland Church to worship as a people and to minister to this community now and into the future.

Why can’t we use the existing Chapel?

The cost to remodel the aging Chapel to accommodate our current ministry needs is too great considering code requirements and other costs.

For what activities will the new Worship Center be used?

In addition to Sunday morning worship, the new Worship Center can be reconfigured for prayer gatherings, various meetings and Youth events.

How many people will the Worship Center seat?

Current drawings plan for 401 seats.

How will parking be affected?

The current parking lot will have fewer parking spaces.  However, agreements with both Rosauers and the Post Office  allow us to use their parking lots on Sunday mornings.

Who is the Architect and who will oversee construction?

The architect is G.D. Longwell - Architects, PLLC  (www.gdlarch.com). The architect, engineers and Building Team will oversee the construction.

How long will construction take?

The architect expects that we can break ground in mid-May.  Construction should be complete by early December, 2008.

Will we need to borrow any money?

A line of credit will be secured for the amount needed over and above the Cedar Property proceeds.  It will be used as needed once all of the cash on hand has been used.  The line of credit will be paid off as campaign contributions are received.
